An Bord Pleanála has also refused permission for two major developments outside Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim on foot of appeals by An Taisce.

Oyster Homes was turned down for 162 homes, shops, restaurant and marina with berthing for 158 boats on a site off the southern side of the N4, while developer Gerard Murtagh was refused permission for a 156-bed hotel, including a business centre and leisure centre on a site within two agricultural landholdings north of Carrick-on-Shannon.

An Taisce opposed the Oyster Homes development because it said the site is a flood plain of the River Shannon and the potential flood impact was been assessed. An Bord Pleanála refused permission because of its height, bulk and scale and said it would obstruct views over an area of visual amenity and is not satisfied it would not increase the flooding risk. Gerard Murtagh's hotel development was turned down because of its position in relation to Shannon Waterway and the scale and mass would constitute a visually obtrusive feature in the landscape.
