Stripped of the jewel coloured lamps and cushions, the room would be fairly neutral . This makes it easy to transform a colour scheme by simply changing the accessories. The staple pieces in the room – the travertine and wood coffee table (€2,500) and matching velour cord sofas (around €6,000 for the pair) – came from El Corte Ingles department store in Spain (www.elcorteingles.es). The Sofa Factory (01 454 6877) has a similar shaped sofa called the Arklow. A large studded two-seater in Casanova cord in velour fabric would cost €1,987 while a three-seater would be €2,204.

The plum table lamps (Product Code - AM 417) from Hicken Lighting (1 800 777077) have instant impact and cost €199 each, including the silver-lined lampshade. They are available in a variety of colours. The velvet wing arm chairs, made to order and upholstered in French velvet by interior designer Angela O’Connor ( 01 288 8811), cost €1,700 each; her silk cushions on the sofa were €60 each.
