Dublin 4: €345,000: The innovative Gasworks project off Barrow Street in Dublin 4 continues this week with the launch of 50 apartments through the Hooke & MacDonald agency.
These start at €345,000 for good-sized one-bedroom units of 50 sq m (570 sq ft). Two-bed apartments of 73 sq m (795 sq ft) cost from €445,000, while three-beds of 105 sq m (1,130 sq ft) start at €625,000.
Show units will be on view at lunchtime today and Friday and over the weekend.
Based around and within the curved iron framework of the former gasometer, this south Dublin scheme - designed by architects O'Mahony Pike for Danninger - incorporates a mix of apartments, duplexes and townhouses in a series of contemporary buildings. The apartments in this phase are in buildings by the gasometer.
Barrow Street Dart station is across the road from the main entrance, a fact that has not harmed its popularity with young buyers and investors. Danninger also built the Millennium Tower development at Charlotte Quay Dock, an established development by the canal basin which is the social hub of this end of Pearse Street.
Two years on from the initial launch, construction at The Gasworks is well under way and the first owners are expected to move in in the next few weeks. This phase should be ready for occupation within two months, according to the selling agent.
Underground car-parking - for sale at an additional €40,000 per space - frees up open spaces for landscaping and retail units are being provided at ground level. Internet company Google has taken one of two office buildings near the Barrow Street entrance.
The specification is of a high standard, with smart kitchens and bathrooms, recessed lighting, a security intercom system and fitted wardrobes. En suite showers and large balconies come with most apartments. Grounds will be landscaped in an appropriate way with leafy town trees and flagstones.
