The Fr Matthew Hall, at Church Street in Dublin 7, and the adjoining Bow Street Friary are to be sold by the Capuchin Order. Duncan Lyster of Hamilton Osborne King is quoting a guideline price of £750,000 for the hall and £950,000 for the friary, which go to tender on November 1st.

The hall dates from 1890 and was a focal point for the nationalist movement in the early 1900s. It was the venue for the Feis Ceoil for many years. Padraig Pearse addressed supporters there and Eamon de Valera is said to have met his wife, Sinead, in the hall.

The hall has a floor area of 8,675 sq ft and, according to the agents, could be converted into offices, a theatre or a creche.

The four-storey friary is currently in residential use and, subject to planning, could be converted into an apartment block, student accommodation or an office block. The friary has parking for 10 cars in a yard accessed from Bow Street. The building has 10,870 sq ft of floor space.
