Large four-bedroom and five-bedroom houses go on sale today at Corr Castle, Howth, Co Dublin. Prices range from £495,000 to £625,000. Four of the eight terraced and semi-detached houses on the site are being sold this week through Douglas Newman Good.
Corr Castle is a development of 85 apartments and eight houses on a 7.8-acre site a mile from the village of Howth.
The houses are all expected to be completed by early spring of next year. The eight three-storey houses are in the south-west corner of the site facing the castle. Because of their height and an expanse of open space, they are not dwarfed by the surrounding apartment blocks.
Exteriors are rendered and there are steel balconies and roof windows. Every other house has a different layout and all have south-facing back gardens. While these are large family-sized houses, the reception areas are arranged for entertaining.
All the houses have nine-foot ceilings, Arthur Bonnet kitchens, Italian-tiled bathrooms and conservatories large enough to hold a party. Sittingroom fireplaces are of French limestone and the bedrooms have fitted wardrobes. On the third floor, there is a bright double room and bathroom, which would make an ideal study or teenager's den.
The smallest houses are 1,450 sq ft mid and end-terraces costing from £495,000 to £550,000. The more expensive houses have great sea views. They have a traditional layout with a bright sittingroom, separate diningroom with conservatory off and a kitchen opening on to the garden. There is a large main bedroom on the first floor with a dressing area, en suite and French doors to a balcony. Two other bedrooms are at this level and the top-floor room has a roof balcony.
Two five-bedroom end-terrace houses with 2,000 sq ft cost £575,000 and £600,000. These have a sittingroom and interconnecting diningroom linking with the kitchen/ breakfastroom. Steps and a low wall separate the working end of the kitchen from the eating area. Both the kitchen and diningroom open to a large conservatory. There are four bedrooms on the first floor with the main room en suite. The top-floor bedroom has a large en suite bathroom.
The two semi-detached houses on the development are the most impressive, measuring 2,050 sq ft and costing £625,000. These have a separate formal diningroom to the front of the house and a very spacious sittingroom and kitchen/breakfastroom linked through double doors. An island unit in the kitchen provides additional serving space.
Both rooms lead out to a 323 sq ft conservatory almost the size of a studio apartment in the city. There are three bedrooms on the first floor and a fourth with a bathroom en suite on the top floor. The main bedroom has a dressing area and a large en suite bathroom.
