AUCTION RESULTS: Tuesday (July 10th)Sotheby's, London. An auction of rare books and manuscripts including three major lots of Irish interest.

The first Duke of Dorset’s three-volume correspondence concerning early 18th-century government of Ireland, including a letter bemoaning the poor quality of wine in Dublin Castle, £91,250 (bought by a “UK dealer”); an album of watercolours and sketches of the Anglo-Zulu war by the Co Waterford soldier and artist, William Whitelocke Lloyd, £49,250 (bought by a “UK private collector”); seven letters written by Jonathan Swift, £49,250 (bought by the “US trade”).

Wednesday (July 11th)Bonhams, London. Auction of 19th-century art. Feeding The Chickens by Irish artist Walter Frederick Osborne failed to sell despite attracting a bid of £420,000. The estimate was £500,000-£700,000.
