The Lucky: Glenda Vaughan expects to have the keys of her new three-bedroom semi in Griffith Close, Glasnevin by the end of the month. She grew up in the area and her parents look after toddler Shawna when Glenda is at work, so the morning drop-off will be easy.
"People look down their noses at affordable housing but I don't know why they don't use it to get on the ladder. I didn't bother going to the draw because I didn't think I had a chance.
"When I phoned the City Council a few days later they literally screamed down the phone that I'd got it, they were so pleased for me. We'd built up a real rapport and they were so nice and helpful.
"I had come across Griffith Close on the internet and decided to apply there and then. I might have got a mortgage but couldn't afford the deposit. This way, I only had to pay €1,300 deposit.'
"I feel so sorry for the people who weren't lucky and need a house more than I do."
