Although the owners of 43 Downpatrick Road are an architect and a planner they didn’t want the livingroom to look too ordered or put together.
So instead of buying the furniture all at once, they opted for a mix and match look with furniture and accessories they’ve collected over the years.
The 1950s leather sofa facing the window is Danish-designed and came from Wildchild Originals.
They have a similar distressed Danish leather sofa for €1,500 (087 2386143, www.wildchildoriginals.com).
Most of the furniture and fittings are autumnal in colour, including the two-seater chocolate brown fabric sofa bought seven years ago and the walnut shelving. To save the room from being too brown, the owners injected a boost of olive green in the form of cushions and a window seat made with fabric bought from Murphy Sheehy Co (01 677031).
The cowhide rug was brought back from a trip to Uruguay. Zara Home has one from Argentina for €429 (www.zarahome.com).
The Eileen Gray chrome end table from www.designclassicsdirect.ie costs €285. There are also two 1960s lamps in the room, including a baby arc from vintage treasure trove Restrospect (01-6726188, www.retrospect.ie).
