SALES RESULTSIn the first major country house auction of the year, Beechy Park, a 224-acre estate in Rathvilly, Co Carlow has sold for €5.35 million under the hammer.
Yesterday's auction - conducted by joint agents Knight Frank and Browne Corrigan - attracted 70 people, though just three emerged as serious bidders after bidding opened at €4 million. The property was declared "on the market" at €5.15m and eventually knocked down at €5.35m. It was bought in trust by a firm of solicitors from Kill, Co Kildare who declined to reveal the name of their client.
The price makes Beechy Park one of the most expensive houses in the county. The four-storey over basement house has been well looked after over the years but is now in need of refurbishment. The estate was last sold in 1924 when it made £5,000.
