Shoparound: Fresh colours and simple design have always been the hallmarks of Naas interiors specialists The Blue Door. Now over double its original size there's lots more choice in their Naas store.

Owners Eileen and Peter Kelly have expanded into an adjacent unit and have significantly extended their offering of smart soft furnishings, furniture and accessories.

New to the shop and also to Ireland are wonderful hand-made throws and cushions from Janne Wendt of Denmark. Hand-printed onto a felted wool and alpaca mix, the throws feel divine and come in a range of fabulous colours. Price €290.

Star of the show, however, is Norrgavel solid wood furniture from Sweden, sold exclusviely in Ireland at The Blue Door. Designed by Nirvan Richter in birch, beech or oak, the range includes a wardrobe modular system offering many combinations and also sofas, tables, chairs, hall furniture, stools. All are on display in the new store. Norrgavel has a very clean simple line. An attractive half-moon table in birch costs €490. A two-seater sofa in a curvy and dramatic design costs from €2,900.

We love the funky Lanstol chair: like an oversized kitchen chair, Lanstol has a high back and adjustable headrest. Priced at €1,750 it's available in birch and ash.

Norrgavel also does a clever range of hall furniture designed for clutter-free Scandanavian apartments. The clutter buster furniture features wall-mounted pocket shelves for hats and gloves and racks for shoes and coats.

Another gorgeous addition to The Blue Door are hens with attitude. Georges, Desirée and family have arrived from France and have already been adopted into many Irish homes. The life-size hens cost from €55 for chicks, €155 for mother hens and €175 for daddy hens.
