One of Dublin's best-known hotels, the Ashling Hotel, at Parkgate Street, is expected to make in excess of £2.5 million when it is auctioned on February 29th by Hamilton Osborne King. The hotel has been owned for the past 40 years by Ben Naughton, who was previously involved in revitalising the Renvyle Hotel in Connemara. The Ashling has been trading very well and has 54 ensuite bedrooms, a conference centre and 50 car-parking spaces. The hotel stands on a one-acre site, which would allow the number of bedrooms to be doubled. The property is located in a tax designated area. The Ashling was originally known as Ross's Hotel and dates back to the turn of the century, when it was popular with farmers bringing cattle from west Dublin to the cattle market. The hotel has also benefited from its location close to Hueston Station and is expected to capitalise on its proximity to the new National Museum at Collins Barracks. It is also located along the route of the proposed light rail line - Luas - which will prove a speedy access to the city centre.
