And another slice of insanity from the wildly talented Belfast-based pair. Expect the unexpected in a show that includes pants-throwing, kangaroo-dancing and a Portuguese-lion tamer (as opposed to Portuguese lion-tamer) in a leopard-skin leotard, not to mention that great question of existence that plagues us all: can you get the blood out of lice? (The answer, apparently, is no.)
Yes (yes, yes), this is the kind of wild, zany, crazy stuff that Ridiculusmus are famous for. So why is this show such a disappointment?
Quite simply because other Ridiculusmus shows are better. Not as funny as the hilarious The Exhibitionists, nor as strangely moving as this year's Edinburgh hit, Say Nothing (also playing as part of this year's International Theatre Symposium, tonight at the Players at 8.30 p.m.), Yes, Yes, Yes appears to have all the Ridiculusmus style without the usual brilliance of content. Where the above-mentioned two shows used the wild surrealism that has become the Ridiculusmus trademark to create violent hilarity in an art gallery, or make the absurd meaningful in Northern Ireland, this time all semblance of context and meaning is thrown out the window in a show that relies far too heavily on dull audience participation and weak theatrical gags.
Still. Jon Hough and David Woods are always good to watch and the show does sport a most magnificent chase sequence through Dublin, Paris, London and . . . the Taj Mahal.
