NATIONAL POWERBOAT GAMES

Beginning this evening, the first national powerboat games are at Achill Island. Anybody with a craft capable of doing more than 17 knots and 17 feet (5.18m) in length can take part in the weekend's event, including treasure hunts. Tomorrow's events include a barbecue at Blacksod Lighthouse, with activities based around the new bridge in Achill Sound. RAW COOKING

On Sunday, the Organic Centre in Rossinver, Leitrim holds a full-day course on raw-food cooking. Gaby Wieland will take participants through preparing their own raw lunch. The course is €90 for one day, which includes a light organic lunch. 071-9854338, www.theorganiccentre.ie

HOSPICE FUNDRAISER

TRAD SOUNDS

SUMMER FAIR

This Sunday, an open day and craft fair takes place at St Clare's Campus in Stamullen, Co Meath, 2.30-6pm. Organic products and arts and crafts made by the residents of the facility, which includes units for older people, people with intellectual disabilities and others, will be on sale. WORLD DWARF GAMES

The fifth world games begin in Belfast on Sunday with an opening ceremony at City Hall at 6.30pm. Events run in a variety of venues throughout the week and it's the first time the games have been held in Northern Ireland. www.belfast2009.com

ALLOTMENT OPEN DAY

The third annual South Dublin Allotments Association Open Day takes place tomorrow, between noon and 4pm at the Friarstown Allotment Site in Bohernabreena, Tallaght. BANDSLAM

A Guitar Herocompetition takes place on Sunday at Dundrum Town Centre from 1pm to promote the opening of the film Bandslam-a School of Rocktype movie. One of the film's stars, Aly Michalka, will be in attendance. Entry is free and open to all NintendoWii and non-Wii enthusiasts. VINTAGE AND CLASSIC SHOW

The Noel Duggan Memorial Show takes place on Sunday in Ballinakill, Co Laois, and includes display of cars, tractors, motorcycles and equipment. GAA MUSEUM

A photographic exhibition chronicling 125 years of the GAA opened last week and runs throughout the summer. Fifty photographs representing the period from 1879 to 2009 show the role of the institution in Irish cultural and sporting life.
