A 1,000 year old penny coin sold for £2,400 at Whytes's recent auction of coins banknotes, medals and other items. The coin, which featured King Sitric, was a rare example of Viking money.
Other notable coins included an 1798 US silver dollar, which made £1,450, and a Richard III Dublin penny, which sold for £1,100. A group of medals awarded to a husband and wife who fought for the Citizen's Army and Cumann na mBan in the 1916 Rising made £1,100.
Telephone cards also sold well. £1,700 was paid for a pair of telephone cards that were given free at an IMI conference in 1989.
Other prices included £850 for a collection of 80 1912-1914 anti Home Rule postcards and £700 for a collection of about 20 photographs of Michael Collins.
Whyte's will hold a sale of postage stamps on May 11th and an auction devoted to comics on June 22nd.
