SAMUEL Beckett's Happy Days will go up at the Gate on March 12th, with Rosaleen Linehan in the leading role and Karel Reisz directing. Riesz, well known as a film director with successes such as The French Lieutenant's Woman to his credit, directed Ibsen's A Doll's House at the Gate in 1993. Happy Days will tour to New York, to go up during the Beckett Festival at the Lincoln Centre in late July or early August.
Gate director Michael Colgan and stalwart Marketing director Marie Rooney double jobbed when they travelled with Molly Sweeney, a Gate/Azenburg co production to New York earlier in the month. They are hammering out the fine details of the programme, which will run in two Lincoln Centre theatres, and have added the element of two round table discussions, organised in collaboration with NYU.
