A new 10-part music series is set to hit Irish TV screens early in 2010. Ceol ar an Imeall( Music on the Edge) kicks off on TG4 on January 14th at 11.45pm. Hosted by Sunday Tribunejournalist Una Mullally, the series will feature both up-and-coming Irish and international acts.
Heathers, Channel One, We Cut Corners and Sunken Foal are among the local talent who will perform live sessions on the show, while there will also be interviews with Julian Casablancas, Grizzly Bear and more.
Each episode will also feature an Irish video and a left-field international video. Mullally told The Ticketthat the series had been a "real learning experience", but being given the freedom to select the featured bands meant that it was a rare opportunity.
“Essentially it’s a programme for music fans, by music fans,” she said.
Series director Paschal Cassidy was also confident that the show would resonate with Irish music fans, and that the live sessions, in particular, were hoping to achieve a similar tone to Jools Holland's Latershow on BBC2.
“We’re not reinventing the wheel, but there isn’t really a show that concentrates on live performance with alternative Irish bands,” he said.
“Hopefully this will go down well, and will develop as a long-running series that people want to watch.”
