PATRICK DOYLE Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Warners ****
After the blandness of John Williams's earlier compositions, Patrick Doyle brings some zest and welly to the Harry Potter franchise. Doyle's lush orchestral score is brash and exuberant, boldly juxtaposing styles from both the classical canon (notably Prokofiev and Strauss) and traditional English music, and dynamically evoking a myriad of moods to create an unusually dramatic score - from the driving Quidditch World Cup to the pastoral Harry Sees Dragons and the brooding Voldemort. With songs Do the Hippogriff, This Is the Night and Magic Worlds written by Pulp's Jarvis Cocker and Jason Buckley, the Goblet of Fire soundtrack also manages to be cool for the kids. www.harrypotter.com Jocelyn Clarke
