First summer-school literature to hand concerns Gormanston 1999. Freda O'Donoghue is handling inquiries about the event at 0905 43338; fax 0905 43309. It will take place from August 7th to 14th.

In addition, O'Donoghue is handling applications for Stagewise 1 (June 27th-July 2nd) and Stagewise 2 (July 4th-9th), also at Gormanston College. These are residential youth theatre courses. More than 200 boys and girls between the ages of 12 and 17 will take part in tutorials under Rowan Tolley (mime and movement), Kevin Dowsett (exploration of creative Potential) and Andrea Meadows (examining and moving texts).

The Drama League of Ireland announces its Maynooth Summer School in Willie O'Brien's excellent first issue of the Newsletter. Jo O'Donovan at 0502 59182 is director, and inquiries will also be handled at 01 4784401 and 088 2502117. The Arts Council will support this, the league's 34th residential summer school, which will run from August 14th-21st. Bill Keating, Mike Vernon, Patricia Glynn, Cathy Prince, Cathy McArdle, Maeve Ingoldsby, Paul Hadfield and Tony Rushfort will cover just about every subject.

Dympna Murray will conduct a three-day non-residential course on costumes, props, masks and the like.

My January column, it seems, disappointed some people in both the ADCI and the DLI, who wrote to emphasise the function of each organisation. But my reference to fragmentation, to which they were replying, had nothing to do with relations between the ADCI and the DLI, the cordiality of which are recognised.

Eircell is to sponsor Dundalk Drama International this year. A press launch was told that Gerry Murphy is again president and that the event will run from May 28th to June 6th.
