MEANWHILE George Lucas's digitally enhanced Star Wars, hits Irish screens on March 21st, continues to be the marketing phenomenon of the decade in the US, where it has taken $99m in its first 17 days of re release. Last weekend, Star Wars regained its throne as the all time US box office champion (not allowing for inflation) when it eclipsed the 15 year champion, E.T. in total takings. However, the huge success of Star Wars may prompt a re-issue of E.T. well before its 20th anniversary in 2002.
