SCOTT HAMILTON'S tone scan best be described as mellifluous. He treats well loved jazz standards with a warm, honey tone and it is a rare pleasure to hear a musician of his calibre treating his audience to a se~ductive, well loved ballad, working it over with great tenderness and then segueing into an up tempo Charlie Parker classic or blues.
His programme last Tuesday was well balanced and varied. Up tempo bop standards, Scrapple From The Apple, The Champ and Woody `n' You, were juxtaposed with familiar ballads such as The Man I Love and Willow ~Weep For Me. A less familiar but no less beautiful choice was Ellington's Tonight I Shall Sleep~ With A Smile On My Face. Whatever the selection, Jim Doherty (piano), Dave Fleming (bass) and John Wadham (drums) provided a fine accompaniment.
