Mealy's shall be conducting a sale of rare and interesting books in Castlecomer, Co Kilkenny on Wednesday starting at 12.30 p.m. when the second lot will be a 1929 first edition in two volumes of the wonderful Retrospections of Dorothea Herbert 1770-1789, with an estimate of £45£80. Other lots carry equally modest estimates such as a pair of Yeats first editions (one W.B., the other J.B., the latter inscribed inside the front cover by Sean Mac Entee) for £80£120 and a collection of Cuala Press broadsides for £40£75. Among the more curious items is an album of more than 90 photographs of Ireland taken by amateur E.F. Barton from the period 1870-90 (£200-£300) and a later photographic archive of work by German-born Wolf Schuster who worked in Ireland from circa 1940 to 1957 (£300-£500). Then there is a framed original illuminated page from a 15th century manuscript on vellum (£90£150) and a variety of indentures expected to fetch in the region of £30-£90 each.
