THE simple form of this Georgian mahogany and fruitwood-banded wine cellarette conceals a more complex interior fitted with a variety of spaces. It is included in Tuesday's antiques and fine art auction at Sheppard's of Durrow, Co Laois which begins at 2 p.m. and features many other furniture lots.

Among these is a 19th century mahogany and inlay pedestal writing desk (£1,500 to £2,500), a 19th century mahogany bureau bookcase (£2,500 to £3,500) and a Sheraton-style mahogany and boxwood-inlaid display cabinet dating from circa 1900 (£1,400 to £1,800).

A particularly attractive lot is a white marble neo-classical statuary mantelpiece (£4,000 to £6,000) and, rather more unusually, a selection of jewellery donated by well-known names to author Deirdre Purcell and now being sold in aid of charity.

Look out also for a group of 30 pictures depicting members of the American airforce and painted by Northern Irish artist Robert Taylor Carson during the second World War.
