This week privacy is a luxury for AILBHE MALONE
TRACK OF THE WEEK
Skyscraperby Demi Lovato. Demi's comeback single might be the best thing you'll hear all year. The vocals were recorded before she went into rehab, and are painfully raw. Desperation claws through the uplifiting chorus, and when she sings about "rising from the ground like a skyscraper", you really want to believe that it could be true – and you feel that she does too. Although it was written by Toby Gad (who did Beyoncé's If I Were A Boy), what's special about Skyscraper is that it's all Demi.
It seemsthat Gaga might be pursuing another creative outlet – if milliner Philip Treacy is to be believed. Speaking to US Weekly, the hat-maker (who has collaborated with Gaga on items such as her telephone hat) explained mysteriously that "this is what happened: One Monday morning, four burly bodyguards arrived – Lady Gaga's security team – to check out the security of the building. I looked at them as if to say, 'What?! Who is going to take a pot shot at Lady Gaga?' Anyway, she is young, talented and peculiar which I like."
Elsewhere, Katy Perry and Russell Brand are swiftly tiring of people dissing their marriage, leading Katy to take to her Twitter page to deny any break-up rumours. Katy wrote: just cause we don't flaunt our relationship doesn't mean there's something wrong w/it. Privacy is our luxury. #tabloidsrtrash #gossipisgross, (sic)" Her husband backed her up, tweeting "You tell em Mrs Brand!"
The GirlsAloud reunion promo mill has begun to spin at a frantic pace – and Nadine Coyle recently added her two cents. Apropos of nothing (apart from promoting her new single Sweetest High), Nadine told an interviewer that "we always discuss doing a 10-year reunion thing. So that's going to be next year." She added "we're definitely going to do something. But it's a whole huge production. Girls Aloud is not just us five, there's, like, us five plus a ridiculous team of 50 who travel with us, it's amazing.
