GREG NORMAN waited out a three-and-a-half hour rain delay then sank two putts for a six under par 65 and the clubhouse lead before rain suspended the second round of the St Jude Classic in Memphis, Tennessee.
Norman's bogey-free round put him at nine under on 133 for two rounds but Gene Sauers was at 10-under with one hole remaining when play was suspended after the day's third rain delay.
Robert Damron, who shared the first-round lead at six under with Sauers and Lennie Clements, hadn't teed off yet.
Norman was just happy that he got to finish his second round.
"I played very well today. Tee to green was exceptionally good, and I got the job done," beamed the Australian. "Right now I don't care what happens. We finished the day. I was a bit little concerned we'd be coming out at seven in the morning to have one maybe two putts."
. Annika Sorenstam shot a stunning six-under-par 65 for a two-stroke lead in the opening round of the Shoprite Classic at Somers Point, New Jersey.
