THE John Field Room, the National Concert Hall's second venue, which has always been ill appointed and ill resourced, is to be superseded by a brand new concert venue before that wall which is fast approaching - D'Millennium - hits us. The conversion of the gymnasium building on the site will cost £1.6 million worth of European Structural Funds. The new space will be used for smaller scale concerts and chamber ensembles, so there will be more of these events, which makes the whole venue seem a lot more approachable. It will also be used for rehearsals.
