The gala screening of six short documentary films at the City Hall on Saturday, June 4th will bring to the fore what may become one of the main legacies of Cork 2005: the compilation of a film archive on the history and experiences of city neighbourhoods.

Film-makers Emma Bowell and Eddie Noonan of Frameworks Films have spent the last couple of years working with community groups in the city on issues of local significance such as housing, race and employment.

This Widescreen project, supported by Cork 2005, examines such events as the closure in 1990 of the Sunbeam Wolsey factory. In one old photograph Mossie Keane, father of the more famous Roy, is identified. Making Mayfield also mentions Roy ("he put Mayfield on the map") and, like others in the 12-film programme, Making Mayfield is distinguished by the professional use of amateur commentaries and authentic personalities, as well as old video and film clips.

Class act: Accusations of elitism in cultural programming have been undeserved for Cork 2005 - so far. Now comes the Royal Cork Yacht Club's beautiful publication of its own history, written by Dr Alicia St Leger and designed by Tony O'Halloran, but issued in a limited, very pricey edition - €100 a copy from the club, thus provoking jibes of exclusivity.
