What's on your rider? These days I'm doing most of the driving, so less booze. Dave, my soundman, likes a glass of milk. It's a bit more rock'n'roll when I'm playing with Tindersticks.

What would be on your fantasy rider?Bootsy Collins, Tony Allen, Nile Rodgers, Chilly Gonzales, Etta James, Stevie Nicks.

What's your pre-gig ritual/ routine? Pump Up the Jamby Technotronic – real loud.

What are your favourite and least favourite venues?Vega in Copenhagen is great. As this is the year of saying yes to pretty much anything I'm not about to come down on any of our less-renowned venues. I will consider all offers!

Most embarrassing on-stage moment?A few years back singing You Know What I Want to Knowon The Late Late Show, my monitors went completely and I sang badly out of tune. It was going out live and it was one of the few times I've felt properly embarrassed.

What's your crowd-pleasing number?Stuff from The Big Romancealways goes down well, but it's been refreshing at the recent gigs to see people most excited by the newer stuff.

Chatting between songs – good or bad?I talk more when I'm doing solo gigs. When I'm playing with other musicians it often feels inappropriate and better to let the music do the talking.

Groupies. Would you?"Yesterday is dead and gone/And tomorrow's out of sight/ And it's sad to be alone/Help me make it through the night."

Do you like to meet and greet fans after the gig?On this Irish tour I'm selling CDs after the gigs, so I'd like to meet as many of them as possible. Three for a tenner!

Any useful stage tips?My mum taught me that if a crowd were making too much noise, then talking and singing more and more quietly was more effective than shouting at them. She learnt it from teaching kids. It sometimes works.

If you could be in any other band, which one?Bootsy's Rubber Band.

Who's invited to your after-show party?Bootsy Collins and Grace Jones – good cop/bad cop of the funk.
