TITANIC LOCKDOWN T13 Titanic Quarter, Belfast Tomorrow 7pm £25.50 0818-719300
It’s going to be a busy year around Belfast’s Titanic Quarter, with a two-day festival on the cards for the first weekend in June. Today, though, it’s an all-day boutique festival. From noon, there’s art, urban sports, workshops, sideshows and The Bonnevilles, Katie The Carnival and Verse Chorus Versus performing for free. Later, it’s the turn of Roots Manuva (below right), Gilles Peterson (left) and the Soul Jazz Soundsystem to shine.
While last year’s excellent 4everevolution album from Rodney “Roots Manuva” Hylton Smith didn’t quite get as much love as it deserved, it was another fine showcase for Smith’s majestic flow, superb observations and smart wordflows. Meanwhile, Worldwide selector Peterson recently switched stations and slots from a middle-of- the-night spot on BBC Radio One to a Saturday afternoon show on BBC 6 Music, so that should see an increased profile for one of the best DJs in the radio business.
