That yellow bastion of Dublin’s Wicklow Street, Tower Records, is celebrating 16 years in Ireland with a series of instore gigs next weekend. The store has become famous for hosting free performances by musicians, many of them international acts stopping off for a short set before playing that night.
The “Sweet Sixteen” celebrations will see local acts performing sets on Saturday, November 7th. Jerry Fish and the Mudbug Club, Valerie Francis, Talulah Does the Hula, Heritage Centre, Bipolar Empire, Heather and ODi will play to customers throughout the day.
This has been a successful year on the instore front, with Steven Van Zandt of The E Street Band dropping in to host his radio show in July, and a host of Irish bands playing on Record Store Day in April. Tower is planning for next year’s Record Store Day with a bigger gig in Vicar Street, and also plan to launch a club night in the near future.
