For those concerned that the success of Janelle Monae’s debut album, The Archandroid, was a musical fluke, her set at Dublin’s Tripod on Wednesday will have allayed any such fears. There were balloons falling from the ceiling; there was Monae, climbing into the sizeable-despite-adverse-weather-conditions crowd before asking them all to crouch down at her feet (figuratively if not literally); there was a dancing nun; there was a dancing angel; there were highs – oh, such highs – but you can be assured there wasn’t a low in sight. Please, Ms Monae, can we have some more?
