There are many reasons to be curious about Marcos "Lorn" Ortega. For a start, he's signed to Brainfeeder, the label curated by Flying Lotus, a man who's no slouch himself when it comes to out- there, cutting-edge sounds. The, there's the fact that Ortega hails from the wilds of Illinois, not the first place that comes to mind when you're listing locations for buckwild sounds. Yet Ortega's debut album, Nothing Else, is loaded to the brim with menacing sounds, eerie noises and spooky drama. Right from the get-go, Ortega's sounds from the shadows grab your attention with their icy, elegant, other-wordly poise and the producer's ability to keep the strung-out sweeps and deep, dubby symphonies firmly in check.
Aside from Lorn, this episode of The !K Club from the !Kaboogie kids will also feature Lakker and the !K residents. JIM CARROLL
