It may only be March, but the summer festival calendar is already filling up. This week, another event north of the border was announced for the June Bank Holiday weekend. The unsavourily-titled Pigstock will run in Killinchy, Co Down from June 1st to 3rd, and will feature a host of Irish acts including Squarehead, Mmoths, RSAG, La Faro, Not Squares, and Mojo Fury.
The festival began as a birthday party in 2008, with 200 people squashed into a marquee, but more than 1,500 people attended last year.
The May Bank Holiday weekend is also becoming a busy one for music fans. Apart from Kilkenny's Roots festival, Dublin's Iveagh Gardens will host the inaugural Summer Sessions.
The three-day event will feature sets by Razorlight, The Human League, The Stranglers, The Undertones, Sharon Shannon, Stereo MCs and Simon and Oscar from Ocean Colour Scene.
The Beatyard Weekender will also take place in Dublin from May 3rd to 6th at the Twisted Pepper and The Bernard Shaw. Matthew Dear, Benga and Kerri Chandler, along with other comedy and music acts are already confirmed.
