It's all over for The Streets as Mike Skinner moves on to new cultural pastures. But he leaves us, on this fifth album, with a reminder of how he reshaped British rap and garage and provided many a teenage kick along the way. Skinner wants to steer himself back to Original Pirate Material territory, and the album's in-your-faceness is a relief from the ponderous previous two. Going Through Hellis Skinner at his most radio-friendly, and Roof of Your Caris a nostalgia-ridden affair featuring his trademark rap-talk over a deceptively simple melody line. There's a sublime effortlessness to the many languid offerings. Blip on a Screensneaks into your affections by stealth, while Lock the Locks, the final (ever?) Streets song, finds Skinner in a valedictory mood: "I'm packing up my desk/put it into boxes". A fantastic and fitting swansong from one of the most influential artists of the past decade.
