Twisted Pepper, Dublin Tonight 10.30pm €15/€12 01-8734800
When it comes to seminal moments in the development of dubstep, they don’t come any more weighty than DMZ, the London club night hosted by Digital Myztikz. Aside from introducing the masses to the work of Myztikz duo Mala and Coki, DMZ heightened dubstep’s profile and sharpened its definition.
It’s not just on a south London dancefloor that Mala and Coki have played a part in dubstep’s twists and turns – tracks such as Ancient Memories have also pushed things forward. They’re in the basement tonight, while there’s a big Balkan beats rumpus in the main room with Stranger Than Paradise’s Gypsy Burlesque don Sacha Dieu (below) alongside the Apollonia Tribal bellydancers plus free Balkan food and drink for all-comers.
For something else entirely, check out Maroon Cartoon, Alice Strands and Eomac doing the biz in the Mezz.
