As Simian Mobile Disco, Jas Shaw and James Ford (above) have produced three albums of strong, emotive dancefloor fuel, but there aren’t enough hours in the day for the pair to get around to everything they want to do. Collectively and individually they’re in demand as producers, engineers remixers and DJs.
Working with acts from Arctic Monkeys to Florence + the Machine has gained a great rep for the pair, as the rollcall of guests for their second album (Temporary Pleasure) demonstrates, with Beth Ditto (Gossip), Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Jamie Lidell, Gruff Rhys (Super Furry Animals) and Chris Keating (Yeasayer) in the vocal mix. This year’s SMD album, Unpattern, was a gorgeously sculpted collection of minimal techno blasts, with tracks such as Interference proof that they could balance technical prowess with powerful grooves.
Support tonight from Frank B . Simian Mobile Disco also play Belfast’s Stiff Kitten on Friday week.
