TRACK OF THE WEEK

The Club is Alive by JLS

Nothing about this song should work. It uses a sample from The Hills Are Alive. It shows a member of JLS drawing a square when he sings about something round. And yet it manages to be the most startling piece of pop we've heard all year. JLS have managed to turn their backs on the X Factorrunners-up tag to become a leading urban act in their own right. This track is something the Black Eyed Peas would be happy to call their own. And that's quite the compliment.

  • There's trouble in Mini Viva land. This week the girls released a statement of sorts, in which Britt wrote: "Everthing is a bit unaware at the moment about what's going on with Mini Viva. Please hold tight, all my love." If the duo fall apart, we'll be genuinely upset, so let's all keep our fingers crossed on this one.

- We're lessupset by the news that Blazin' Squad have split. For those who don't remember (or don't care), Blazin' Squad were a kind of proto-N Dubz, who explored the dizzying middle ground of mediocre r'n'b during the mid-noughties. We'll remember them fondly, if only for Kenzie's brief dalliance with Jodie Marsh, and hope that one day we'll meet again at the crossroads (crossroads, crossroads).

  • Jedward recently tweeted some sage cooking advice. "THE DIRECTIONS ON FOOD BOXES! NEVER WORK OUT! 5MINS COULD BE 20MINS MICROWAVES! DOESN'T MATTER WHAT IT IS?THROUGH IT IN AND HOPE 4 THE BEST!" Actually, "throw it all in and hope for the best" could sum up Louis Walsh's approach to their career thus far.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK

Looking more like an episode of Doctor Who meets Dr Strangelove than a pop song, it's Lady Gaga with Alejandro. We could gab on about how great this is, but really, have a look for yourselves.
