Picnic hamper has all the trimmings

Electric Picnic is finally here

Electric Picnic is finally here. Those of you who are Stradbally-bound today, don’t forget that it’s not just musical treats on offer. The Mindfield Spoken Word area continues to grow – as well as the previously announced speakers (Howard Marks, Jon Ronson and the rest), there’s plenty of home-grown talent on offer.

There’ll be two panels (in The Salon, 3pm-4.30pm) featuring a selection of writers from female-led group blog The Anti-Room, which founder (and Ticket contributor) Sinéad Gleeson says will cover female stereotypes (Saturday) and women in the media (Sunday).

Also in Mindfield, the Hot Press Chat Room will host public interviews with the likes of Foals, Cathy Davey, Imelda May, Friendly Fires (below), UNKLE and more over the weekend, the Leviathan Stage will host talks with guests ranging from Dave Fanning to George Galloway, and the Arts Council Literary Stage will see Mike Scott of The Waterboys reading from his memoirs.

The Ticket will be keeping you informed over the weekend with our free daily issues – keep an eye out for them on Saturday and Sunday morning.

Meanwhile, those of you who aren’t going and find themselves at a loose end in Dublin tonight may be interested in Phantom FM’s regular club night First Friday.

The Spikes, The Hot Sprockets, Electric Penguins and The Keds play The Academy, and admission is free before 10pm.
