Luke Cowdrey says it all began for The Unabombers in “a dirty old basement in a dirty old rock club” in downtown Manchester during the hot, sticky summer of 1995. That was the first sighting for the Electric Chair, Cowdrey and Justin Crawford’s club, which become an institution for Manc clubbers, attracted heavyweight guests (including Francois Kervorkian, Laurent Garnier and Joe Claussell) and was a launch-pad for the duo’s empire, including fanzine, label, compilation albums, live band (The Elektrons), tours and other club nights. Since the Electric Chair was folded up and put away in 2008, the pair have continued to work on events and shindigs such as the Electric Elephant festival in Croatia.
Tonight Cowdrey hits the south, and Cork dance music connoisseurs with a taste for the finest in house, disco, hip-hop, Latin, techno and northern sulphuric soul won’t want to miss this one.
