The ash cloud caused by the eruption of Eyjafjallajökull has put paid to the plans of many musicians who were planning trips here, and with air travel still uncertain for the coming weeks, it’s possible there will be more cancellations.
“We’ll have contingency plans in place for future shows, though it’s a little difficult to work on definite plans at the moment,” said Declan Forde of Pod Concerts. “The scientific analysis about how long it will last, and where it will affect, seem to be changing by the hour.”
Music fans have been voicing fears that their summer festival plans may be scuppered if the volcano continues to erupt over the coming months, but Forde was optimistic about Electric Picnic (the line-up of which includes Roxy Music, LCD Soundsystem and The National) going ahead as planned in September.
“I’m not much of an expert, but I’d be very surprised if it was still an issue in four months,” he said. “If it is, we’ll have worked a way around it – most of our acts travel by ferry, anyway.”
Aiken Promotions reported there are no affected gigs, while MCD were unavailable for comment in relation to July’s Oxegen festival.
