Prepare for your jaw to hit the floor because one listen to A Statue That Is Perpetually Unveiledwill do that. The work of a young Scottish producer who goes under the moniker of Dam Mantle, it's a tune that plays like the soundtrack for an extra-terrestrial Disney cartoon produced by a big band who spend their days floating on Jupiter and their nights lounging on Mars.
You'll find A Statueon the forthcoming Grey EP from Tom Marshall aka Dam Mantle. The rest of the tracks on his debut release for Glaswegian label Halleluwah Hits are just as enticing. This is electronic music that fizzes and sizzles with audiosyncratic drama and ethereal soul. And his remixes for Gold Panda, Au Revoir Simone and Gonjasufi confirm that we're dealing with a dude with some very interesting sonic shapes to throw.
Marshall used to be in various indie and post-rock bands around Glasgow as a teenager and is certainly in the right place for producers on a far-out beats and electronica tip. Hudson Mohawke and Rustie have already come to the surface in Glasgow and it’s also where Irishman Mike Slott came to light as a member of Heralds of Change.
What odds that Dam Mantle will be joining that list in the months to come?
