A busy few weeks on the jazz scene sees two tours under the Music Network aegis (musicnetwork.ie) involving collaborations between local and visiting musicians.

Currently on tour is tenor saxophonist Alex Mathias with US guitarist Jake Hertzog, who was the youngest-ever winner of the Montreux Jazz Guitar Competition in 2006. Active on the New York scene, he also has his own rock group. The quartet, is completed by bassist Damian Evans and drummer Dominic Mullan.

Thought-Fox (above), the innovative quintet which won Music Network’s Young Musicwide Award last year, features the voice of Lauren Kinsella with trombonist Colm O’Hara, British pianist Tom Gibbs, bassist Mick Coady and drummer Simon Roth.

And, for good measure, the Bottlenote Festival of experimental improvised music is on in Dublin tonight and tomorrow.
