The Underground@ Kennedy’s, Dublin Tonight 10pm 7 before 11.30pm/ 12 01-6611124
Ivan Smagghe is a DJ who has provoked much wiggling on Dublin dancefloors down through the years. The Parisian DJ, producer, Kill the DJ rep and former Black Strobe acid warrior first made his name in Dublin via appointments at Backlash back in the middle of the last decade, when that night was in its pomp. These days you'll find Smagghe collaborating with Tim Paris on It's a Fine Line. The hook-up has produced a rake of slinky, wobbly disco-noir killers of late, such as current single Do the Hot Tar.
Smagghe has also turned up for rock nights all over the globe. Tonight it’s Big Dish Go, with filthy, sleazy electro freakouts. Support comes from one-time chief Backlash buck Jon Averill, now to be found satisfying his post-punk, disco and electronic oddness cravings with the Shock World Service podcasts (find them on Soundcloud or iTunes).
