Belfast-based band Cashier No 9 are in celebratory mode, having signed a deal with prestigious UK indie label Bella Union.

The quintet, formed in 2008 by Danny Todd and named for his former guise as a coffee-shop employee, will release their debut EP, Goldstar, on April 25th. The EP was produced by David Holmes, who is also producing the band's forthcoming debut album, To the Death of Fun, due for release in June.

Todd contributed vocals to Holmes's last album The Holy Pictures, and the latter alerted Bella Union boss Simon Raymonde to Cashier No 9's recordings.

"After recording a few songs at his studio, he jumped in and decided to record an album with us," said Todd. "He's been working so hard on this record with us – he's more like the sixth member of the band. And Bella Union are the sort of label known for helping artists grow and flourish, which is exactly what we were looking for."

Raymonde himself was full of praise for the band, describing their sound as "the truth we are all looking for. The album has a deep soul, and I imagine this is what David saw. I now see it too, and I am delighted to welcome the band to the Bella Union family."
