The music venues of Ireland’s bigger cities may be eerily quiet this weekend, as a large number of Irish music fans are Barcelona-bound for the city’s annual Primavera Sound festival. The 10th festival kicked off yesterday, and will see the likes of Pixies, Pavement, Beach House, Grizzly Bear, The Fall and Pet Shop Boys play today and tomorrow.

While Primavera Sound has always attracted a large Irish contingent in search of good music and even better weather, this year will also see one of our own take to the stage. Tuam native Brian Kelly, who plays under the moniker So Cow, will make his debut at the event on Saturday.

“We’re mindful of the Catalonian love of twee pop, and aware of our own legacy as Tuam’s answer to Rollins Band, so we’ll most likely walk that tightrope, set-wise,” he said. “We’re on the same time as Grizzly Bear. Should I pack an autoharp? I think the aim is just to out-rock them.”
