The Glorious Dead Counter ***
There's every chance you've come across The Heavy before now without realising who they were. The Bath band's meaty retro-rock is a favourite with those who select music for US TV shows and films such as Entourage, Community, Californicaton, Ted, The Fighter and others. Add in placement in a zillion adverts and the band's success in selling their stars 'n' stripes yahoo-rawk back to the Yanks can be seen as quite an accomplishment. Like The House That Dirt Built the last time out, the band's third album knows just how to use those salty, sleazy riffs to turn up the heat on their Southern rock boogaloo. Tracks such as The Lonesome Road, Curse Me Good and, especially, the deeply infectious What Makes a Good Man? are proof that the Heavy know exactly how to keep on trucking – and they've no plans to take another route or strike new road. theheavy.co.uk
