Armed with a big voice to dig like an old soul record, Cork-based Brian Deady has been attracting attention since he first opened his gob and began to beatbox. There are still a couple of nods towards that hip-hop past here, but
Interviewis where Deady sets his sights on a much smoother and wider soul, funk and disco horizon. It's his mighty rumble of a voice that does much of the initial heavy lifting here, illuminating songs such as
Long Time Runningand
The Heart Meltswith great colourful splashes and some of that raw deep soul that never goes out of fashion. Deady also has a good handle on pop as well, and there's plenty of meat and verve in the likes of
Headlights. A grand start.
