Rock'n'roll touring does broaden the mind. Simian Mobile Disco's James Ford and James Shaw have named every track on their third album after a different exotic foodstuff they encountered while on tour. The globetrotting has also effected senses other than the duo's tastebuds. After the relative glitz and highlife of last year's Temporary Pleasure, an album bedecked like a Christmas tree with guest vocalists, Delicaciesis a return to a subterranean techno dive and a no-frills approach to sonic adventure. Minimalist, harsh and low-cut, each track is tough, edgy and snarling, making for a gritty hand of techno trump cards. Between the abrasive punch of Skin Crackerand the psychedelic whirl that rages throughout Ortlolan, SMD rage with the machines like they haven't done in quite some time. Now, who's for seconds?
