Artic Monkeys
Cornerstone
Domino
****
Truth be told, I suspect that Cornerstoneis that unfamiliar album track I almost dozed off to during two separate Arctic Monkeys performances this summer. But, freed from the hype and expectation of a festival main stage, the song emerges as a wistful mini-epic, telling the tale of a man haunted by lost love until he eventually succeeds in getting it on with his ex's sister. Dead romantic, like.

The Sea Is a Good Place to Think of The Future

The Welsh seven-piece are busy recording an album inspired by novelist Ann Richards, who drowned herself at sea in 1973. Dark, disturbing and surprisingly mature, The Sea is a long, long way from You! Me! Dancing!!
Har Mar Superstar featuring Adam Green
Never my Love
Rhino
**
Assuming your sides haven't already split at the mere idea of diminutive Minnesota sex god Har Mar Superstar teaming up with (equally straight) former Moldy Peaches boy wonder Adam Green for a duet of The Associations' perennial wedding favourite, then this blandly faithful execution may disappoint. From the Whip Itsoundtrack, Never My Lovenever adds up to the sum of its parts.
Yes Cadets
Rufio ****
“It’s not a camera/It’s not a guitar/ It’s not rock’n’roll but it makes great cinema.” Excellent opening track from the eponymous debut EP by this Belfast group. Yes Cadets support Super Extra Bonus Party in Belfast tomorrow night at the AU Halloween Ball in the Oh Yeah Centre. www.myspace.com/yescadets
Westlife
What About Now
RCA
*
According to Wikipedia (famous last words, etc), Westlife's new Where We Arealbum features a guest appearance by one Leonard Cohen – another example of the online encyclopaedia's hilarious unreliability. That, or the legendary singer-songwriter's financial problems are infinitely worse than anyone previously suspected.
