Inter-Be Jagjaguwar ***

Peter Pisano and Brian Moen had plenty of experience in the bank when they took a break from other musical projects (The Wars of 1812and Justin Vernon-associated Shouting Matches, respectively) to work on a new batch of Pisano songs. What they've produced on Inter-Bewill likely have far more resonance beyond Minneapolis than any previous releases. Starting by stripping Pisano's songs back to the bark, the duo then painstakingly build the tunes out with fuzzy alt.folk and rootsy lo-fi embellishments. The results are stately and graceful, the perfect match for Pisano's high-pitched vocals (one reason why Vernon will be mentioned in reviews) and melancholic observations (another reason for those comparisons). However, on Crutch Cane, Lionand the punchy Hard as Nails, the duo show more than enough of their own ideas to keep everyone happy. See myspace.com/peterwolfcrier
