London Sessions, DFA****
Those who caught LCD Soundsystem in Dublin recently will know that James Murphy and his crew have morphed into a fine live band, one spurred on to greater heights by the reaction of a keen audience. There was no audience present when the band recorded this session at The Pool studio in south London back in June, but the tracks do see them putting new twists on familiar fabrics and driving them to the outer limits. The collective musical chops will always be mentioned in the despatches (Pat Mahoney's superb drumming is the fulcrum for the entire show), but Murphy's own nous as a producer, arranger and conductor should not be downplayed. You can picture him ringing the changes and working new shapes into Daft Punk Is Playing at My Houseand All My Friends, while such turbo- charged grooves as Get Innocuousand Pow Powbenefit from fresh momentum.
